How do I Applaud? What is Applause? What are these yellow clappy things?
Applause are a way of showing the author that you liked their item.
They give 3 points to the user who receives them. They cost you 3 points too, but you get 5 free ones each day.
You give them by clicking the clappy hands
just below any comment form. You can give up to 3 applause on any particular item.

How do I get points for commenting?
You can get points for a comment over 100 characters long.
There are two ways:- By how the journal author rates your comments: You get two points for each of four rating stars. You get 0 points for 1 star.
- By commenting on Poems Rewarding Comments, by clicking the 'Poetry' tab above. Poems that are rewarding comments over a bonus 4 (currently) points credited when you make the comment. If the author rates your comment with 1 star, the bonus is removed, but not given back to them.

How do I rate a comment? And Why?
People want points, which is one motivation for adding comments.
Rating a comment is what gives people points. If it was a 'nice write' comment, give it 1 or 2 stars. If the comment was critical, and went into detail about ways to improve your journal, give it 4 stars.
Each star shown corresponds to 2 points. As you hover your mouse over them, they will turn orange to show how many you have selected. Click the star when the correct number of stars are yellow.
Only one comment per journal per poster can be rated. Additional ratings on comments by the same person will replace earlier ratings. -
How is popularity decided?
By the number of times it's been applauded over the last 7 days. Each day, applause from 7 days ago are removed, and moved to "old applause" (still shown on the journal page).
A penalty for age of an item will likely be added in the future to prevent the same journal from staying in the popular list forever. -
My journal doesn't show up in a particular category
The listings for a category are cached, which means they are only updated every 10 or so minutes. Hang tight and your journal should show up there eventually.
For performance reasons, journals from before the upgrade will not show in the category until it is edited and saved again.
